Hey guys! 2015 HAS BEEN A DOOZY!! I was laid off, hired at another firm to do a job I love (I work in excel all day and I LOVE IT!) created an LLC and really started taking my creative journey to entrepreneurship seriously. Woohoo! I want to review my accomplishments and help you review yours with my downloadable Accomplishment Countdown Worksheet!
In continuing on my journey to entrepreneurship I want to take a second to review all that I have accomplished in my creative life. Read below as I recount everything I was able to accomplish and then take stock of all that you did this year and leave a comment with your accomplishments! Let’s pat ourselves on the back for once!
As a bonus I also have an Accomplishment Countdown Worksheet to help remind yourself of all the amazing things you did this year and hopefully push those goals bigger and further in 2016. Fill it out and display it proudly on the FRIDGE!! You rocked this year and I want you to remember and push yourself to go bigger in 2016!
So without further ado…
My 2015 Accomplishment Countdown
1.) I started (and failed) at having my own tshirt line
So this didn’t go very far because I did not do the proper research. If you remember I started a “Big Hair Bigger Dreams” movement early in 2015. Turns out not only is the domain name already taken but there is an organization with same name. I can’t go far trying to push t-shirts and a movment nonetheless with a name that is already in use! What I learned from this experience DO YOURE RESEARCH FIRST! Despite all of this I am UBER proud of myself for failing. I at least tried and that is an accomplishment in itself!
2.) I got BACK into sewing
So through the time I got laid off to starting my new job a few weeks later to about two months ago I had stopped sewing. I was making a lot of jewelry, still creating but just not sewing. But now that things are settled I have started sewing again and I couldn’t be happier. What I learned – When you continuously go back to something that is a sign to never put it down. Never stop. Keep learning and exploring the things that obviously make you happy.
3.) Hosted a brunch for big hair bigger dreams
So remember when I said I started a movement for Big Hair Bigger Dreams? Well I also hosted a brunch with some well respected women that I know to help solidify the movement. Before doing this I don’t think I had ever hosted ANYTHING at my apartment. This was the first time that I allowed people to come into my home and we all had SO MUCH FUN and made the amazing connections. I learned to be more vunerable. Don’t be afraid to let people in.
4.) I started a podcast (well 2 really)
I started a Podcast. How cool is that?! I actually started two, one with my friend but that fizzled due to scheduling conflicts. My Bigger Dreams Podcast only has two episodes BUT I have some things up my sleeve coming up shortly and I’m really excited to relaunch the Bigger Dreams Podcast. I think it’s going to be a hit!! More info coming soon!
5.) I made my second (and third) pair of pants
Using Mimi G’s Simplicity Pattern I made the highwaisted bell bottom pants AND I hacked the pattern and made some high waisted leggings. My second and third pair of pants EVER. Still have a lot of work and learning to do but an accomplishment none the less.
6.) I began selling my Shawl Collar Vests.
If you’ve been following me lately then you have seen me in my shawl collar vests. I love them and want to offer them to the masses. So I’ve gotten over my fear and began selling them. It’s a really great piece and so perfect for anyone to wear that it’s time to monetize. Such a hard lesson to learn but sometimes as a creative you have to get over yourself, get over the fear of sharing your craft and JUST DO IT! Check my vests out here and here!
7.) I started learning more about the fashion industry
So this whole time I was sewing and making jewelry I was literally just sewing and making anything I felt inspired to make. In 2015 I decided to take it seriously. If I want to be a real entrepreneur in the fashion industry that means I need to learn everything I can. I got myself an accountability partner and I’m consuming books and articles like nobody’s business. I’m out here learning ya’ll!
8.) I admitted to myself that what I really wanted to do was DESIGN
It has literally taken me 7 years to admit to myself that I want to design and make clothes and jewelry. I LOVE putting things together. I love clothes and design. Why am I not combining those loves?? Why has it taken me so long to admit what it really was that I was passionate about. In 2015 I finally humbled myself and admitted to myself that the only thing I want to do in this world is put things together and those things that I would love more than anything to put together is clothes and jewelry and outifts and MY BUSINESS!
9.) I READ and READ and READ
I can’t even tell you how many books I’ve read this year. Probably 30, most likely more. But I spent 2015 learning and the funniest thing happened I spent so much time learning that my creativity has expanded and I have become much more curious and inspired. Dont sleep on the value of learning. If this year taught me anything, it taught me to not be afraid to take a step back to LEARN. Go back to school, back to the basics and LEARN all you can. You will not regret it.
10.) I decided to go back to school!
On the heels of that last accomplishment, I’ve decided to go back to school! If 2015 taught me to take myself and my craft seriously then 2016 is the year of action! I’ve taken all that I accomplished in 2015 and move forward by furthering my learning and understanding of my craft. Respect the craft and all that goes into it and you are bound to soar!!
Now, that I’ve listed all my accomplishments from 2015 it’s time for you to do the same. You can download my Accomplishment Countdown Worksheet to help jumpstart your review of your year. The Accomplishment Countdown Worksheet will also help to list all that you’ve learned from your accomplishments and how you can action those teachings in 2016. My intent is for you to really think about your year and be proud of the biggest and smallest accomplishments because even the smallest step forward is a step closer to your dreams.
You can download the Accomplishment Countdown Worksheet below. Use it. Be Proud of it. And Share it with anyone else who is running towards entrepreneurship and/or following their creative dreams.
