By now you should know I love the drama and LOVE a maxi skirt! I made this custom DIY maxi skirt this summer as a quick piece to wear to a wedding. Though I made it this summer I have seen tons of skirts like it. Here are some examples of maxi skirts made of beautiful silk fabric.
All of these skirts are so amazing and right on trend.
I had the option of gathering the waist band or pleating and decided to use pleats as I wanted a more structured look. I paired it with a simple white tank top and statement necklace. I also have black pumps on which are pretty high but with the length of the skirt my shoes are completely covered and based on the 3 inspo pics I found on tumblr above showing your shoes is out anyway lol!
The skirt literally took me about 2 hours to make with the hardest part being the math to ensure I had equal pleats that fit my waist.
I loved this skirt so much you may have noticed I’m wearing a tea length version of this here. When I made my second skirt I ended up gathering the waist and though it took longer I like it better. I used a silk dupioni as my fabric and because the weight of the fabric wasn’t very heavy I got a lot more body when gathering rather than pleating.
Either way, I love both my skirts and can’t wait for the summer to come around again to wear them!
I’m thinking of listing them on my website to sell to clients. What do you think??
