This year I celebrated my 30th birthday (I’m old!!) and because I didn’t want to do anything over the top I chose to have a dinner party…but with a twist 😉
I decided to have a themed dinner at a speakeasy in the city and have me and my friends dress up in our best 1920’s gear. Who doesn’t love a good costume party?? Especially an era like the 1920’s? 1920’s means pearls, sequins, head pieces, fur, the works! Full on glam!
For the special occasion I wanted something special so I made myself this self-drafted sequin pencil skirt. It was VERY labor intensive lol! Working with sequin is not easy plus I didn’t use a pattern. But I love the result! I also made the fascinator which was definitely a lot easier and may be my favorite part of my outfit.
I decided to use a mermaid style silhouette for a little extra flair with a heavy duty ribbon as the waistband. And because I didn’t want the skirt to be too too too dressy I used a black exposed zipper. However, I didn’t get a picture of the back of the skirt. There’s also a slit in the skirt and a lining. See. Very labor intensive for someone who was just getting back into sewing. If I made the skirt now it would most likely not be as difficult but in the summer when I was just getting back into sewing, it was a struggle lol.
Here’s the end result. What do you think? Have you made something for a special occasion that you just love?!?
