I have been interested in working with leather for some time now and was ecstatic when I found a leather remnant at Mood Fabrics in NYC for only $14!
I’m not sure what type of leather it is but it is very thick and sturdy, which is really all I cared about. It literally took me 2 hours to complete with the hardest part being punching holes in the leather so that my needle can pass through easier. I hand stitched the leather and used the 2 needle method with upholstery thread. I cut a long rectangle out of the leather skin and only did two lines of stitches. One on each side to close up the bag. I left the front flap shaped as is because I liked the natural shape the leather skin already had when I bought it.
I am thinking of adding a snap closure to the front flap and maybe a strap but as of now I’m loving this easy DIY clutch!
